It is the targeted market, that is my problem. As you pointed out, planes are very efficient and fast at cruising and the most energy inefficient mode is hovering. That obviously would favor something that hover just for a very short period of time and flies longer distances. Yet the "flying cars" are designed for commute distances, city center to airport.

Worse, some designs (Volocopter et al), are drone likes so they are in the hover flight mode always. In that sense Lilium Jet is better.

My biggest issue with EVTOLs is however the energy consumption. Let's assume we have a battery that weights nothing. Would we accept a transportation vehicle that requires 100kWh for a trip when a car requires 15kWh? The energy must be produced still.
