Not sure on the "Scala is Very Popular and has a brighter future". I actually see it on a declining path, favored over Python for Data Science.

For all hardcore backends Java took the nicest concepts of Scala into its own language capabilities. Not sure if Spark would be developed today, Scala would be the choice as well. (These are pure subjective opinions)
